University of Prishtina and Ambassador of Ireland Discuss Opportunities for Joint Projects
A meeting held at the University of Prishtina (UP) Rectorate with the non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Kosovo, His Excellency Ragnar Almqvist, focused on strengthening cooperation between UP and universities in Ireland.
During the meeting, UP leadership and Ambassador Almqvist discussed and endorsed the idea of developing new programs in peace studies and European integration. They highlighted the Irish state's approach to its past as a valuable example for such studies.
The talks also covered expanding UP's partnerships with Irish universities through joint and integrated education programs. The establishment of a winter school for peace studies at UP was considered a promising opportunity. This school would feature lectures by professors from both UP and Irish universities.
Ambassador Ragnar Almqvist was welcomed by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Arben Hajrullahu, and the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Academic Staff Affairs, and Publications, Prof. Dr. Adem Beha.
UP already has a strong tradition of collaborating with universities in Ireland. For example, the Master's programme "Civil Society and Local Development" in the Department of Political Science was established some time ago through a partnership between UP, the University of Galway in Ireland, and the University of Graz in Austria.
Furthermore, Prof. Gëzim Visoka, based at Dublin City University (DCU), is the first professor from the academic diaspora to become affiliated with UP under the Regulation on Transfer, the 'Brain Gain' programme, and cases of extraordinary need for academic staff recruitment, which was approved by the UP Senate on 30 April 2025.
Internationalisation, networking, and strengthening international cooperation are among the most important principles of UP's management, alongside a commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and accountability.
