Summer University Weekend: International Students in Prekaz, Prizren, and Ulpiana Explore Kosovo’s Ancient and Modern History
Prishtina, July 12–13 — After a week of intensive lectures and activities, participants of the Prishtina International Summer University spent Saturday and Sunday on visits outside Kosovo’s capital.
Saturday in Prekaz and Prizren
In the morning, the group traveled to Prekaz, the site where residents of the Jashari neighborhood—led by Adem Jashari—wrote a glorious epic of resistance and non-surrender from March 5–7, 1998, standing firm against overwhelming Serbian forces for three days until their deaths.
At the Adem Jashari Memorial Complex, international students observed preserved traces of that unequal battle, in which even children were not spared. They learned firsthand about the sacrifices of the legendary commander, his family, and neighbors—an unparalleled or exceedingly rare act in the history of warfare.
Later, the students visited Prizren, Kosovo’s most picturesque city, where diverse ethnic groups and three monotheistic faiths coexist in harmony. They stopped at the League of Prizren complex, explored its fountains, fortress, cultural and religious landmarks, and savored the city’s famed qebapa.
Sunday in Ulpiana, Radavc, Peja, and Radavc Cave
On Sunday, free from academic commitments, the students visited the ancient city of Ulpiana, the White Drin River spring in Radavc, the city of Peja, and Radavc Cave.
After exploring Kosovo’s ancient history at Ulpiana—a city founded by Roman Emperor Trajan and later rebuilt by Justinian, a Byzantine emperor of Dardanian heritage—the group turned their attention to natural wonders. The White Drin spring in Radavc, the vibrant city of Peja, and the striking Radavc Cave left the students both spellbound and refreshed.
Starting Monday, academic courses, lectures, and cultural-social activities will resume at the Prishtina International Summer University.
