Learning Through Practice: The Tenth Edition of the "Software Freedom Kosova 2025" Conference Takes Place
The tenth edition of "Software Freedom Kosova 2025," the leading regional conference on open-source software and hardware, was organized at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering from October 24 to 26.
The keynote speaker for this conference was David Cuartielles, the co-founder of "Arduino." Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs, light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message, and turn it into an output, activating a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online.
The event also featured other local and international speakers who shared their latest innovations and experiences in the field of technology. Sessions on artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), presentations, and workshops were also held.
Alongside the staff and students of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, volunteers from "Free Libre Open Source Software Kosova" played a significant role in the successful organization of the conference.
Students and professors from FIEK also participated in the European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC 2025) in October. An alumna of the faculty, Dredhza Braina, was shortlisted for the prestigious international "Cybersecurity Women of the Year 2025" award and subsequently won the "Barrier Breaker" category of the competition in August 2025.
