The EU Summer School, dedicated this year to interdisciplinary challenges and perspectives in the use of artificial intelligence, has commenced at the Faculty of Philology.

In his opening remarks, the Rector of the University of Prishtina, Prof. Arben Hajrullahu, stated that we are now in the fifth phase of technological development. “The first phase is considered the Industrial Revolution, when humans discovered machines and made work more efficient. After this came the second phase, electrification; the third was automation; the fourth, digitization; and the fifth is artificial intelligence,” Rector Hajrullahu noted.

He urged everyone to prepare for the changes this intelligence is bringing and will continue to bring, as nothing will remain the same.

The Rector emphasized that even the foremost experts in artificial intelligence do not know exactly what the future will look like, though he predicted that these technological advancements would reshape how university professors deliver lectures and communicate with students.

Johannes Stenbaek, Head of Cooperation at the EU Office in Kosovo, also remarked that artificial intelligence is transforming the world but stressed that it is our responsibility to ensure this intelligence serves the public good.

Other speakers included Prof. Nikolaos Panagiotou of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bardhyl Dobra, and Florim Canolli, Director of the Office for Development Cooperation in the Prime Minister’s Office.

The EU Summer School is organized by Young Cell Association in partnership with the University of Prishtina.

Over its four-day duration, discussions will focus on the use of artificial intelligence in education, media, economy, business, ethics, privacy, legal regulations in the field, cybersecurity, and related topics. At the conclusion, participants of the EU Summer School will receive certificates.
