Congress on Climate Change: Universities and Academia Must Protect the Planet

At the Fourth International Congress on Sustainable Finance, Economics, and Policy, jointly organized by Kirklareli University and the University of Prishtina with the support of the Ministry of Regional Development, it was stated that the planet must be protected for future generations as well.

During the congress's opening, it was noted that everything we do today regarding the preservation of the planet will shape the future. It was also emphasized that the harmful approach to our common home must be stopped.

Universities and academia were told they have a primary role in the future of humanity and in raising awareness against the destruction of nature and pollution, as pollution cannot be contained by borders but spreads everywhere. The conclusion was reached that even necessary economic development can and should be achieved while protecting the environment.

Participants included professors and experts from both universities, students from the University of Prishtina, and personalities from academic, institutional, and political life. The speakers were the Rectors: Prof. Arben Hajrullahu (University of Prishtina), Prof. Rengin Ak (Kirklareli University), Prof. Nurten Deva (University of Mitrovica), and Prof. Jusuf Zejneli (University of Tetova).

Speeches were also given by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Kosovo, His Excellency Tunç Angılı, and the Acting Minister of Regional Development, Fikrim Damka.

During the congress, which will run until November 1st, 13 plenary sessions are planned on topics related to economic development, climate change, and various pollutants.

Yesterday, the University of Prishtina and Kirklareli University signed a memorandum of cooperation.
