In a meeting at the University of Prishtina’s Rectorate with Mr. Lucian Brujan, the Coordinator for Education, Science and Innovation of the Berlin Process, it was agreed that this major initiative for Western Balkan integration into the European Union should extend beyond annual conferences and joint declarations in the academic field.

Mr. Brujan, who is also a senior official with the Department of International Relations at Germany’s renowned “Leopoldina” National Academy of Sciences, asked about the most urgent challenges facing the University of Prishtina that could be addressed with support from the Berlin Process.

University leaders and their guest agreed that the process should promote practical, concrete cooperation at the academic level among Balkan countries seeking EU membership. This cooperation would focus on areas of common interest and look beyond political barriers.

The University leadership asked the senior German official to use his position to help strengthen UP’s international ties. Specifically, they requested support for creating joint degree programs, including dual diplomas at the master's and doctoral levels, with prestigious European universities. They emphasized that this is essential for building a modern university suited to today’s needs.

Mr. Brujan was also presented with UP’s vision for boosting internal collaboration among its faculties, as well as its detailed digital transformation plan. The University asked for his support in increasing international mobility—specifically, attracting more students and professors from leading EU universities to work and study in Prishtina.

The discussions also covered the goal of establishing a fully integrated education system in Kosovo to finally move past the divisions of the 1990s.

Coordinator Lucian Brujan was welcomed by Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu and Vice-Rectors Rozafa Basha, Adem Beha, and Avni Hajdari. Rector Hajrullahu has participated in the annual meetings of the Berlin Process’s Science, Education, Research and Innovation Pillar for the past two years.
