This year, the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Prishtina celebrates its 65th anniversary as the oldest and leading institution in the field of social and human sciences in Kosovo. On this special occasion, the conference titled “Social and Human Sciences and Change” will be held on October 29–30, 2025. The conference aims to reflect on the Faculty’s multi-decade journey, highlighting its role, achievements, contributions, development, opportunities, and challenges, while offering a forward-looking perspective for its future advancement.

The official opening ceremony of the conference will take place on October 29 at the University Library and will feature keynote speeches by distinguished professors Prof. Rexhep Ismajli and Prof. Muhamedin Kullashi, who will share their perspectives on the development of language, culture, and internationalization throughout the history of the Faculty of Philosophy.

The second day of the conference, on October 30th, will focus on thematic panels that provide space for discussions and reflections on key issues concerning the academic world and contemporary society:

Panel 1: The University- Role and Partnership
This panel will explore the dimension of university cooperation and the role of social sciences in building partnerships. Discussions will focus on research and education methodologies, the role of inter-university exchanges in advancing Albanological and historical studies, as well as the significance of transnational sociology in understanding social processes within a broader European context. It will also reflect on the contribution of professors from Albania to the development of the Faculty and on the role of social sciences in post-war societies in addressing the past.

Panel 2: Social Challenges, Critical Thinking, and the History of the University
This panel brings to the forefront challenges related to critical thinking, historical reflection on the university itself, and environmental issues in philosophy. Discussions will cover the philosophical issues of our time, the role of critical thinking in society, and the figures and intellectuals who have left a mark in the history of the Faculty of Philosophy. The panel will also examine ideological and political differences during the years 1981–1991, exclusions within the political developments of the time, and the university’s role in Kosovo’s political and social processes.

Panel 3: Migration-Challenges and Perspectives
Migration remains one of the most  social issues of our time, and this panel will address its various dimensions. Discussions will center on historical and anthropological perspectives related to family structure and migration, the impact of media perceptions on emigration aspirations, and the challenges young people face as they navigate between personal ambitions and social realities.

Panel 4: Public Health and Artificial Intelligence
This panel combines the dimensions of public health with the challenges and opportunities brought by technological development- particularly artificial intelligence. Topics will include trauma and its impact on public health, the influence of AI on students, and the potential of AI in education and research. Special emphasis will be placed on education for the critical and responsible use of new technologies, to preserve the culture of reading, analytical thinking, and the development of academic capacities.

The conference will bring together scholars from Kosovo, the region, and Europe, creating opportunities for academic exchange, new partnerships, and the generation of ideas that shape the future of the social and human sciences.

The conference serves both as a moment of reflection on the past and a visionary platform for the evolving role of the Faculty of Philosophy in the decades to come.
