UP ORGANIZES A COMMEMORATIVE GATHERING IN HONOR OF THE ACTIVIST, ADEM DEMAÇI

The University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina” has organized a commemorative gathering after the passing away of the activist and the symbol of resistance for the national cause, Adem Demaçi.
The commemorative gathering began with a moment of silence, by which the participants honored the life and work of Demaçi.

The rector of the University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina”, prof. Dr. Marjan Dema, said that every single one of us is a witness of Baca Adem’s greatness, who as a sign of respect, is called by the whole nation as bacë*.

“I first heard of baca Adem from my brother when I was 10 years old. He had met baca Adem in the Srem Mitrovica prison. In the following years, it would be precisely his name who would inspire us to be good students. His name motivated us and gave us the courage to be unstoppable during our protests, demonstrations and other fronts, up to when we achieved to make baca Adem’s dream become a reality - the independence of Kosova.” said Dema.
The rector said that baca Adem’s work will live long in our memories and will be remembered generation after generation, including the staff and the students of the University of Prishtina.

A resume was read for those present by the professor, Myrvete Dreshaj – Baliu, who spoke of Demaçi’s contribution in education and state formation.

“Adem Demaçi, who was the most emblematic symbol of our epoch, passed away. He was one of the greatest Albanian as well as international personalities of the past and the present century.” said Dreshaj – Baliu.

Moreover, Shqiptar Demaçi, the son of Adem Demaçi, who spoke in the name of his family, shared memories from the year of 1994, when his father was involved in students’ protests and demonstrations in order to achieve his goals on freedom and independence.

In 2011, Adem Demaçi was given the degree of University of Prishtina’s “Doctor Honoris Causa”. This degree was given to him for the contribution he gave during his life for the liberation of Kosova, for the remarkable academic contribution,  the engagement on representing and preserving the national values, as well as for preserving the democracy, the safety and the peace in the region.
