The UP Alumni Association honored the President and the Prime Minister with the "Honorary Alumni" Award
In the amphitheater of the Central University Library, President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu and the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, were honored with the University of Prishtina's "Honorary Alumni" award.
Both current heads of state were students at the University of Prishtina, and President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu is also a member of UP's academic staff.
In her address to the attendees, President Vjosa Osmani described UP as a space for freedom of thought and the heart of the country's academic life. "A nation that honors knowledge has no reason to fear the future," stated Mrs. Osmani.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the professors and students of UP can provide Prishtina and Kosovo with the leaders of the future.
On the occasion of October 1st, Students' Day, the UP Alumni Association presented its "Honorary Alumni" award to the President and the Prime Minister of Kosovo. On this occasion, Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu stated that "there are few, if any, universities anywhere in the world that have contributed as much to the enlightenment and statehood of a society and a country as the University of Prishtina has throughout its entire history."
In addition to the speeches, the solemn ceremony honoring the state leaders featured an artistic performance by Faculty of Arts professor and soprano Besa Llugiqi, who performed with piano accompaniment from professor of the same faculty, Lirika Pula.
The UP Alumni Association had previously awarded its "Honorary Alumni" award to President Atifete Jahjaga. Founded in 2018, the association aims to unite UP graduates to assist the university with their expertise in internationalization, networking, and fundraising.
The University of Prishtina considers maintaining connections with its former students and graduates—who have built renowned careers throughout the world and in Kosovo—to be one of its priorities.
The ceremony honoring the President and the acting Prime Minister was also broadcast live on RTK.
