Student Day coincides with the anniversary of the October 1, 1997 protest, organized by the Independent Union of Students of the University of Prishtina for a return to university facilities. The protesters, dressed in white, were forcefully dispersed at that time by the police of the former Serbian regime, but the event was seen as an accelerator of the processes leading to the country's final liberation.
