Senate Meeting: Three Female Professors in the Governing Council of UP
During the Senate meeting, the five members of the Governing Council who will represent the University of Prishtina (UP) in this highly important executive and regulatory body were elected. Three of the five elected members are women.
The UP representatives in this council will be Prof. Mimoza Ibrani, Prof. Teuta Jashari-Kajtazi, Prof. Arian Krasniqi, Prof. Vjosa Fejza-Ademi, and Prof. Kurtesh Sherifi.
The election involved voting for 16 candidates who, according to the Electoral Commission—composed of Vice Rector for Institutional Development, Quality Assurance, and Student Affairs Prof. Majlinda Gjelaj; Faculty of Medicine Professor Kreshnike Dedushi-Hoti; and Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Prof. Florian Miftari—met the eligibility criteria to serve on the Governing Council.
In the first round of elections, Prof. Mimoza Ibrani became a member of the Governing Council after receiving more than half of the votes from senators (23 total votes). The second round of voting was conducted with the 12 most-voted candidates from the first round.
The remaining four members of the Governing Council from UP’s academic staff were elected in the third round of voting, as none secured sufficient votes in the second round. This time, voting took place among the eight most-voted candidates from the second round. The term of the five elected members will last until September 14, 2028.
The call for applications for these five positions was announced on June 2, while any potential complaints regarding the selection and voting processes will be reviewed between July 1 and 2, 2025.
In addition to the five members from UP’s academic staff, the Governing Council also includes four members appointed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation.
