Senate Meeting: New Faculty Appointed, Academic Staff Hiring Processes Initiated, and Employment Terminated for Two Professors
At the Senate meeting held on April 29, 2026, it was decided to open calls for several new academic positions in the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine. Proposals for the promotion of existing academic staff and the appointment of professors and assistants through public competitions were also approved.
The majority of appointments, promotions, and reappointments in the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Physical Education and Sports were approved.
A call for doctoral studies was announced in the Faculty of Education, and arrangements were made for a visiting professor from the University of Ljubljana to join this faculty, which runs a joint doctoral program with the University of Ljubljana.
The Senate also undertook the organization of a competition for a position in the Faculty of Philosophy, reconfirming the Evaluation Commission and establishing an Appeals Commission for this process.
The Senate decided to terminate the employment of two professors, one in the Faculty of Medicine and the other in the Faculty of Philosophy, due to failure to fulfill contractual obligations and other ethical violations. This decision followed the senators’ review and acceptance of detailed reports, evidence, testimonies, and statements.
During the meeting, the Central Doctoral Studies Council was expanded with three new members, while several doctoral research topics were approved and ratified. An appeal against a decision of the Ethics Council was reviewed and dismissed, and a new member was appointed to that council.
At the request of student senators, the process of re-evaluation and continuous assessment was discussed. Meanwhile, the Rector informed the Senate about recent reports submitted to the Ethics Council regarding alleged violations by certain academic staff members.
