Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Heritage: UP Wins New Project
The University of Prishtina has secured a significant project that promotes regional cooperation and uses artificial intelligence tools to protect cultural heritage.
The project THREAD – Technology Using Real‑time Embroidery and AI Design aims to preserve, present, and recreate traditional ornamentation through digitization and artificial intelligence. This will help safeguard the cultural values of Kosovo and the project partners from Albania and North Macedonia.
Through a digital platform, traditional ornaments will be collected and processed, while AI algorithms will analyze the various patterns.
The project’s goal is not only to preserve cultural heritage but also to support artisans in creating new reinterpretations and to promote collaboration among the partner countries.
The project will bring together experts in computer science and cultural anthropology and will be led by Prof. Dr. Eliot Bytyçi in collaboration with his colleague Prof. Dr. Zanita Halimi from the University of Prishtina. It will be implemented over a two‑year period.
The University of Prishtina has previously secured and continues to receive grants for projects from various organizations and international partners.
